A £11m luxury hotel to rival the very best in Wales is on the cards for Newport’s Celtic Springs.
Backers of the proposed 120-bed Plaza-style hotel scheme say it will create some fifty new jobs and include a full sized swimming pool and top class restaurant.
One floor of the hotel will be dedicated to the provision of executive bedrooms.
The hotel proposal, which has been submitted by joint developers Vinedale Ltd and AWG, also includes conference and meeting rooms, a banqueting room, a full health club, Jacuzzi, sauna, beauty parlour and fitness room.
The proposals, which have been submitted to Newport city planners, are for a site adjoining CS1000 at Celtic Springs, where the Prison Service is creating 500 jobs.
Subject to planning approval work is due to start on the two-and-a-half acre site in the Autumn and will take a year to complete.
Iain Logue, Operations Director of AWG, said: “A hotel and nursery development of this standard is a significant boost for Celtic Springs Business Park and the whole Newport area.
“In parallel with construction of these facilities we will be investing a further £750,000 in the infrastructure and landscaping at Celtic Springs, making it an outstanding location for business in Wales.”
“Research has shown that there is pent up demand, in the Newport area, for a true luxury hotel to compete with the likes of the Hilton in Cardiff.”
Robert Carew-Chaston, Chairman of Hutchings & Thomas, joint marketing agents for Celtic Springs Business Park, said: "These two proposed developments, the hotel and day nursery, will be fantastic for Celtic Springs Business Park. It is something we have been wanting for quite some time.
“A four/five star hotel at this location, serving the business park and also catering for the surrounding area, will be a huge boost for the existing occupiers on the park and will, I believe, act as magnet for those looking to locate to what is an unrivalled location.
“The 120-bed hotel, with a full sized swimming pool, conference facilities and first class restaurant offering international cuisine, will rival anything else that is currently available in the area.
“It offers what would be a quality amenity in a prestigious location on one of Wales’ premier business parks. I believe it will act as a catalyst for the area in generating new business.
“The hotel will be attractive not just to the business community but will also become a destination for those travelling to the south Wales area.
“And the provision of a leading edge day nursery, offering some 80 -100 places, will make the business park even more attractive to employers looking to recruit women returners and parents, working at Celtic Springs Business Park, who might otherwise struggle to find quality and affordable child care in the vicinity.”
The £100m Celtic Springs Business Park is a joint venture between AWG, Chepstow-based Broadhall, Newport City Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.
The prestigious park is already home to the HM Prison Service (HMPS), which is creating 500 new jobs at CS 1000, Integra Office Solutions, and Wales and West Utilities. Leading Wales construction company Midas recently started work on its regional headquarters, for Midas Construction Ltd., at Celtic Springs.
